It’s difficult to believe that it’s been 26 years since Jane’s Addiction formed in Los Angeles, California, back in 1985. While the act have had their fair share of break-ups and bassists since then, the core of the group—vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins—are all still making music together and their upcoming release The Great Escape Artist—which comes out on October 18th—features songs like “Irresistible Force,” which not only rocks but also proves the band are as relevant now as they ever were.

However although they’re still one of the biggest alternative rock acts in the world, Jane’s Addiction have never lost sight of where they’ve come from and correspondingly the group recently paired up with Citi to once again perform at some of the intimate venues they cut their teeth on back in the nineties. The band—which also features bassist Chris Chaney—kicked off these gigs by playing two highly celebrated special small club shows in Chicago last weekend at the Metro, the same place the band launched the release of Nothing Shocking back in 1988.

No, we won’t stop there! they’ll also be performing at Los Angeles’ John Anson Ford Theatre on October third and fourth—and in a recent statement Dave Navarro discussed the significance of these shows. “In ’89 we created a unique atmosphere at John Anson Ford. Back then it became a community and a party. Stephen Perkins even played drums in the parking lot for everyone as they entered the venue. Now we are going back to play this special LA venue and intend on making these shows just as unique.”

Finally the band will be performing at New York City’s Irving Plaza on October 17th and 18th which is also certain to sell out quickly. While we personally weren’t old enough to go see Jane’s Addiction in the late eighties, tunes like “Mountain Song” and “Been Caught Stealing” are so embedded in fans of rock music’s minds that it sort of feels like we were there when it all started, too. Oh and if you were planning on going to one or both of the New York City concerts, tickets go on sale on October 1st so you’ll have to move fast. “Irresistable Force” may currently be tearing up the Billboard Singles charts but don’t forget that the album also features the song “End To The Lies,” which the band offered to fans as a free download back in April as well as eight more songs that we’re sure will be future classics.

The Great Escape Artist is Jane’s Addiction’s first new studio album in eight years and artistically it sees them teaming up with Rich Costey (Muse, Franz Ferdinand) as well as TV On The Radio’s Dave Sitek to create an album that continues to see them pushing musical boundaries and conventions.
