Porn Star Dancing: Rock
Band "My Darkest Days" Readies for Presence at Penn Can Speedway 'Clash
at the Can' June 7; Fans to Receive Giveaways, Kevin Bates to Drive
Special Edition No. 42B at Historic $8,000-to-win RoC Modified Event
SUSQUEHANNA, PA – Dirt track racing and rock music: a perfect fit.
When
the historic 'Clash at the Can' at Penn Can Speedway takes place
Tuesday night, June 7, rock band "My Darkest Days" will have a presence.
The band - based out of Norwood, Ont. - has teamed with Lake Ariel,
Pa., driver Kevin Bates to make a splash at the speedway's richest
event. The 60-lap Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour-sanctioned
big-block/small-block Modified headline event pays $8,000 to the winner
at the Susquehanna County oval.
Bates
will debut a custom-vinyl-wrapped "My Darkest Days" body on his No. 42B
for the 'Clash at the Can' event. He will display the 'magnum edition'
car in the grandstand area prior to the start of on-track activity that
night (the body will be run in special events only). "My Darkest Days"
has provided fan giveaway items including CDs, shirts and photos, all
signed by the band. The band's music will be played during the night, as
well.
"My Darkest Days" is best known for the hit single 'Porn Star Dancing.' To learn more about the band, visit

Bates,
25, is a weekly Modified campaigner at Penn Can, Five Mile Point
Speedway (Kirkwood, N.Y.) and follows the RoC Dirt Modified Tour
schedule. Last year, Bates and his family-fielded team placed second in
points at Five Mile Point and ended the season with a victory in Penn
Can's 50-lap 'King of the Can' finale in October. The soft-spoken driver has an $8,000 payday on the mind heading into the 'Clash at the Can' event.
"It's
a good-paying race," Bates said. "Everybody should be there. The track
has been good there this year; you can't ask for more than that."
The
'Clash at the Can' is a co-promotion of Brett Deyo and Penn Can
managers Al Wilcox and Reed Miller. It serves as the first leg of the
four-race Short Track Four Crown sponsored by Pioneer Pole Buildings and
VP Racing Fuels.
The
'Clash at the Can' is a racer's dream: a record total purse of nearly
$22,000, paid heat race winners thanks to Manmiller Electric, a long
list of contingency prizes and no increase in pit admission.
Gates
will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 6:45 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.
There is a rain date of Wednesday, June 8 in place. The Trackside
Products RoC Street Stocks and XCel 600 Modifieds complete the program.
Pit
admission is $30 with ANY track or series license and $35 without.
Grandstand admission is $22 (Adults), $20 (Seniors/Students) and $4
(Youth). Fans attending the previous Friday night event at Penn Can will
receive $2 off admission if they present their ticket stub.
Last
year, the first edition of the 'Clash at the Can' was a study in
diversity, with Penn Can regular Brett Tonkin, New York superstar Danny
Johnson, Pennsy racer Duane Howard and Canadian Stewart Friesen in the
mix. After an extended side-by-side battle with Tonkin, Howard emerged
the victor driving the BPG Racing No. 4 Troyer.
Penn
Can's layout ensures money, fresh rubber and horsepower don't guarantee
success, making the 'Clash at the Can' favorable to low-dollar, weekly
teams. Tire wear is non-existent. No conflicts on the dirt Modified
calendar will allow the touring series stars and Pennsylvania/New Jersey
teams to invade the facility. The makings of an all-star field are in
place.
For
drivers following the entire 13-race RoC tour, the 'Clash at the Can'
holds added significance. The event offers championship points toward
the overall crown.
There have been 11 RoC events
held at Penn Can since the tour's inception in 2005 with a who's-who of
past winners including Stewart Friesen, Howard and Pat Ward in addition
to active local stars Joey Grammes, Alan Rudalavage and Brian Weaver.
Marketing
opportunities remain available for the Short Track Four Crown events.
